Keep Your Friends Close and Your Enemies Closer

Hello there, I hope you are doing well.

Let’s start the article with something a little positive!

Following the news from Oxford University which states that a steroid called “dexamethasone” was effective to save lives. This steroid has been used on those who were in moderate to critical condition. In the latest news about Japan and the Corona virus, the country has approved the use of the medicine. Hopefully, this is the start of the world’s recovery. But keep in mind that the change is gradual, so we still need to observe social distancing, among others.

Today’s 3-Hint Quiz:

Here’s a brief explanation of the hints:

They say that a leprechaun, or a small person in a green suit, is hiding a pot of gold at the end of a “rainbow”. And to clarify, “ROYGBIV” stands for red-orange-yellow-green-blue-indigo-violet!

This will be the last 3-hint quiz and I will introduce something from this week onwards! For this week, we will cover a word puzzle called “rebus”. These are puzzle quizzes that use both illustrations and words to show another word/phrase. In Japanese, this would be called “判じ物”.

Here’s for this week’s rebus:

give   get

give   get

give   get

give   get

HINT: Whenever you make an enemy and you want to be friends/civil again, this is what you should do with what they have done to you! Put their/your mistakes in the past and do this!

I’ll reveal the answer next week!

Today’s ESL Recommendation:

If ever you’re tired of watching videos on Youtube, Netflix and such, then I suggest trying Ted-Ed videos! These are simplified videos about concepts/subjects that might sound difficult at first, but after watching them a couple of times, you will get the hang of it! The easy-to-understand explanations are paired with impressive illustrations and clear voice-over recordings, so this would not only improve your listening, but also your reading comprehension and speaking, if you want to go the extra mile and practice overlapping and shadowing!

Remember last week’s recommendation, vocabulary.com? That would be beneficial for this, too!

Good luck and I hope this helps!

Here is this week’s study music:

Today’s Column:

https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20200718-the-revolutionary-electric-boat-powered-by-the-ocean

I am proud to talk about the Philippines for this week’s international news column! This article talks about how a group of engineers in the Philippines are currently developing a boat that is independent or does not rely on harmful fuels. Instead, it would rely on sea/ocean waves. Of course, before something arrives at the end goal, there are many problems that they need to solve. This includes technology and cost. Upon its fruition, this would definitely help conserve the earth and consume less of its resources.

Remember to take care of yourself and stay safe.
