The Aladdin Modus Operandi

Hello there, I hope you are doing well.

Halloween’s over! Did you do anything fun at home or with a few of your friends?

Nowadays, testing kits for COVID-19 are available and would have results on the same day, which would be as fast as 2 hours. This article shows a different way to get tested. It shows here that they are using silkworms to reveal if you are positive or otherwise. The people criticized it for having late results (around 2 weeks) and more expensive than what’s already on the market, but I thought it’s interesting how technology and science have advanced already, compared to the time we had to rely entirely on silkworms.

Today’s Fill-In-The-Blanks Quiz:

Here’s last week’s song:

(Fast forward to 0:48)

So, it’s gonna be forever  or it’s gonna go down in flames

You can tell me when it’s over, hmm, or if the high  was worth the pain

Got a long list of ex-lovers, they’ll tell you I’m insane

Cause you know I love the players and you love the game

Here’s this week’s song:

Hey, little Anna, you’re ____ ____

Rising before that ____ sun

_____ all the numbers off your list

I never ____ it’d be like this

Today’s Idiom:

“the balloon has gone up”

When you’re in a situation that could potentially get worse and it actually did, this is the idiom you could use in that situation. Here’s a sample conversation:

A: You know how I told you I might lose my job because of the current pandemic?

B: Yeah, we talked about that last week.. any updates?

A:  Yeah, well, I got fired and the balloon has gone up, I also found out that I don’t have much money saved..

So the first bad event was “A” losing his/her job, and then the balloon went up because he/she actually did lose his/her job AND also, he found out that he doesn’t much savings.

I hope this helps!

Today’s Column:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/nov/01/two-men-arrested-india-aladdin-lamp-con

In India, the police are tracking down two men who are allegedly selling a lamp that has “magical powers”, like the one from the film, “Aladdin”. They told people that this item could grant them wealth, good health, and fortune. The money the two guys have taken have amounted to about 70,000 pounds or 9.5 million yen. I think it’s a crazy amount! What’s your opinion about this article?
